It's The Great Pumpkin Layout

Earlier this week, Tina over at Tina Time Blog had posted some cards that she made with buttons of the Peanuts Characters on them.  That got me thinking that it would be neat to do a layout using the "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" as inspiration.  So, I decided to use that as my title, but change it so it would have Kaylee's name on it.  Every year, she goes to Tate's Farm to their pumpkin patch, so I thought it would be cute to put a picture of her with one of the larger pumpkins on this layout after she goes this year.

I cut everything for this layout using the SCAL program.  The font is Cartoon and was cut in black vinyl.  The ghost is from the Spooky Dingbats font.  The pumpkin is the cutting file this week at Cuttin' Up With Class.  They are a new challenge blog and this is the file to use this week.  I am entering this layout into their challenge here: http://www.cuttinupwithclass.blogspot.com/.  After the pumpkin was cut, I inked the edges of the main cut and the layers before attaching it to the layout.

I am also entering this into the challenge at Whimsical Wednesday, the theme this week is anything goes, you can find their blog here: http://whimsicalwednesdays.blogspot.com/.

Spool of Thread Mini Sewing Box

I wanted to make a little box that looked like a spool of thread to put some sewing things into.  I have had these little paper mache boxes for a while just sitting around and I decided by using both lids and one of the box centers I could achieve something close to the look of a spool.  Here is what I ended up with.  I think it may look more like a spool if the lids were thinner, but I think it works. :)

I started out by taking the box and lid and one additional lid and painting them white with Krylon Spray Paint.

Once the paint was dry, I placed the bottom lid onto the box.  It fits tightly on, so there was no need for any glue to hold it in place.  I also attached the top lid and used a pencil to mark where it would come down to on the box for the thread placement.

Now, I used the hot glue gun to attach some yarn to the box and I wrapped it, filling in the area in between the two lids.  You could wrap this with any color you wanted and as thick or light as you want.

Once this was finished, I used SCAL to cut a little needle svg and hot glued it to the side.

Owl we Need is Love Layout

Lettering Delights has a new cutting set called Owl in the Family and I loved it, because you guys know I love owls.  I had this picture of Melissa and Kaylee that I thought the owls would look so cute with.  I used the cut set for all of the cuts on my layout and then added a matt to the picture.  The eyes on my owls are flat back black pearls.  All of the papers are from the DCWV Shimmer Stack.  I also outlined everything in black and added a few faux stitch lines with a with pen around the owls.

Acrylic Keychains

I bought some 1 inch acrylic circles to make keychains with off of Etsy.  They already have a hole in the top, so I just had to add a key ring and chain to them.  (Found a bag of 16 at the Dollar Tree)  I decided to go ahead and do a few to see how they turned out.  I wanted to put a Captain America Shield on one for me, but I was thinking the circles would be small to deal with in vinyl, so I had my hubby paint the symbol on there.  He painted it on the back to give it some depth and then I added a couple of coats of mod podge to seal it.
I also made two with green vinyl for gifts.  They are the Green Lantern Symbol and the Xbox Power Symbol.

Doctor Who Inspired Block

Don't know if any of you ladies are fans of Doctor Who, but my dad has watched this forever and when I was younger I did not like it at all.  But now, me and my hubby love the new series of Doctor Who.  My sister Britney was at our house on Saturday and she caught an episode with us and is now addicted to the show as well.  She has been catching up on Netflix this week.  My mom and dad think it is so funny that we now like the show.  Anyways, since we like the Doctor so much, I thought I would make something for me and her.

I had these blocks with sayings on them that I had picked up at the thrift store to do something with.  I painted them white (it took three coats to cover the sayings up completely).  Then, I cut the Bow Ties are Cool (a quote of the doctor's) with the Ariel Black font in SCAL.  The tricky part was the doctor.  I was originally just going to hot glue a little bow tie on here, but then after playing around with an image of the doctor for a long time, I was able to get a fairly decent vector image to cut in SCAL.  It is not perfect, and with the small cut, I think I lost some of the details, but I am happy with how these turned out.

I went ahead and cut the image larger to see how it would look with all of the details and weeded properly, since the small one was kind of hard to work with and this is how that looks.  Now, to find something to put that image on, lol.

Alabama Canvas

My family is big Alabama Football fans since we live in Alabama.  So, I thought I would make a little canvas today since football season has started.  (I prefer NFL Football, so I may have to make me a Steelers one of these.)

I started out with a 6x6 canvas from Hobby Lobby.  I spray painted it with Valspar red.  Once it was dry, I used SCAL to cut out the Alabama A in white vinyl.  I applied a coat of Mod Podge over the canvas to ensure the vinyl would stay down.  Once that was dry, I took a piece of houndstooth ribbon and hot glued it to the side of the canvas to finish it off.  I think it turned out nice and was really quick and simple to put together.

Pumpkin Time Layout

Here is another layout with pictures from last Halloween.  (I think this is the end of those, so now I can think about layouts for this year.)  My sister had her house decorated with lights to look like a Jack-o-Lantern and that is what you see in the bottom picture.  The top picture is actually another one of my other sisters who cut the bottom out of a pumpkin and fit it over her head to scare the trick or treaters that came to my mom's house.

For the layout, I used the George and Basic Shapes cartridge to cut a square frame and to cut some circles to go across the center out of fall papers.  I also cut a picture of the pumpkin to go with the circles as well.  The title on the page is stickers by Recollections.  Finally, I added some journaling to the bottom corner and a small pumpkin brad as well.

Toad-ally Great Birthday Card

I made this little frog card for a birthday I having coming up.  The present is in a bag with a frog on it that hat a hat and party horn, so I wanted to make a card to match it.  The frog on the bag looked just like the frog on the Create A Critter Cartridge, so I used that cart to make a shape card.  I then used Smiley Cards for the party horn and Create A Critter for the hat.  I cut the horn and hat in purple and pink to match the bag and added some white dots with a white gel pen.  On the inside, I wrote the sentiment: Hope your birthday is "toad"-ally great.  I think the frog turned out pretty cute, especially with his big googly eyes, lol.

Bat Cards for Madison's "I Feel The Love Project"

Madison over at http://funkycards.blogspot.com/ has an "I Feel the Love Project" that she hosts on her blog every month.  She collects cards for different families and causes and it is a really great thing.  Please stop by her blog and consider sending a card to help out.  This month, she is collecting Halloween cards to send to the children at The Pediatric Specialty Care.

I decided to make some little bat cards to send.  I used the Hello Kitty Greetings Cartridge and the Gypsy to make these bat shape cards.  I didn't like the way the card on the cart fit together, so I welded two together to make my own shape card.  I cut the main card base in white and then cut the bats in grey and black.  I added some google eyes and faux stich lines to finish them off.

EEEEK Layout

I have a Halloween layout to share with you before October.  I wanted to enter a Halloween challenge, and since I know I will have more than 31 Halloween projects I need to make, I am going ahead and sharing this before my October Halloween event starts.

I used the mini monsters cartridge for the web and spider on this layout.  I matted the picture with a hand cut square and I added a blingy sticker for the word.  This is a picture of Kaylee from last year at the Scarecrow Trail that I had not scrapped yet.  I added an action wobble to the spider so he could move around on the web. :)

Here is a picture of the Action Wobble in action.

Soccer Champs Layout

I made this layout with the picture I had from Kaylee's awards day for soccer.  I used the Car Decals Cartridge for the font and cut it out of vinyl.  For the trophy, I used a gold shiny paper and the Graphically Speaking Cartridge.  Finally, I matted the photo in blue and added some faux stitch lines in blue around the page.

Stormtrooper T-Shirt

I saw these Stormtroopers that me and my husband liked for $35 and I was thinking I could make those.  So, I went and got us a white shirt from Walmart that costs $3.97 each and a small pack of black fabric paint from Joanns that was $1.50.  I then went and used SCAL to trace and cut a Stormtrooper face image with the cricut at a size of 8.064W x 7.729H out of vinyl.  I used the vinyl as a stencil and painted the image on the shirts.  I am so happy with how they turned out.  The ones I saw had the face a little bit larger, but it is basically the same shirt for a whole lot less.  My hubby loves his too.

Here is a picture of the shirt with a helmet my hubby is working on repainting right now.  (You can see he hasn't put the lenses in yet, lol).

Teddy Bear Blog Hop

Today I am excited to be in the Teddy Bear Hop that is being hosted by Jen of http://www.jenscraftcorner.com/.  She is having this hop in honor of it being National Teddy Bear Day today.  All of the projects have teddy bears on them, and there are some giveaways along the way (see under project for my giveaway).

If you have arrived here from visiting Jen at http://www.jenscraftcorner.com/, you are in the right place.  I decided to make a little Teddy Bear notebook to share today.  I used the Paper Dolls Dress Up Cartridge for the teddy bear.  I cut him 10 times out of cardstock and 2 times out of brown paper.  I layered the brown paper on a sheet of cardstock to add some stability to it.  I then added a little bow, some google eyes, and the mouth and nose details to the front.  Finally, I added some faux stitch lines wth a white gel pen around the edges of the bear.  Once that was finished, I used my bind it all to bind the pages into a little book.

Now for my giveaway, I am offering a Maya Road Chipboard Shape Album (pic below) that you could alter any way you like.  To be elgible, you need to become a follower if you are not already and leave a comment on this post through Monday, September 12th.  I will pick a winner using random.org and post the winner here on Tuesday, September 13th.

Furever Friends Layout

I made this layout of Kaylee with her two yorkies.  I used the Batman Cricut Cartridge to cut the font for the title.  I added some white dots with a white gel pen to the letters to accent them.  The puppy dog is a transparency that came in a pets paper pack from Michaels.  Finally, I matted the photo and added a strip of paw print ribbon to the side of the paper and to the side of the picture.

Pleated Scarf

So, I don't know about anybody else, but I am so ready for the Fall.  I love the cooler wether and getting ready for Halloween.  So, while I am waiting for the Fall to come, I decided to try my hand at making a pleated scarf.  It ended up being a little bit shorter than I wanted, but I am so happy with how it turned out.  I was a little nervous about sewing pleats, but after looking at a few youtube videos and tutorials, it was not as hard as I thought it would be.  I used a knit jersey fabric for the scarf.  I sewed the scarf on both sides of the pleats and also down the center of the pleats as well.  I am thinking about making some more of these as gifts for Christmas.

Great "Pear" of Grandparents Card

I made this card for my grandparents on my dad's side for Grandparent's Day coming up later this month.  I used the Wild Card Cricut Cartridge for my card base and embossed it with the Seeing Spots Cuttlebug folder.  I then used the Serenade Cartridge for the pears and Smiley Cards for the mouths on them.  I used a white gel pen to add a little accent to them and added some google eyes and bows.  Finally, I used the Storybook Cartridge for the frame and added the sentiment: "A great "pear" of Grandparents".  The inside of the card says Happy Grandparents Day!

Another Wedding Layout

I made this simple wedding layout for a few challenges.  I started out by cutting a piece of some worded paper and layering it onto the top of my background paper.  Both pieces are from Hobby Lobby and made by The Paper Studio.  Next, I sewed on a piece of pleated ribbon across the center of the page.  Finally, I added a frame of the worded paper to my picture and then added a pearl flourish and a litle banner sticker that says "Joined at the Heart" to the bottom.

Halloween Announcement

Hello everybody!  Since it is September 1st, I wanted to go ahead and let everybody know that I will once again be doing the 31 days of Halloween projects this year starting October 1st.  I think everybody really enjoyed this last year, so I want to continue the tradition and do it again. :)  I have a ton of ideas and can't wait to start working on projects to share for the month of October.  I will also have some giveaways again this year also.  I have had a few people ask about this, so I figured I would go ahead and let everybody know it would be coming back.

Hope you all have a wonderful day!  I am hopefully going to get some crafting done this afternoon and will be back with a new project to share later today or tomorrow.
