For Day 6, I wanted to share with you this wreath that I made for Trick or Treaters. This is a really easy project and it is a great way to give out candy. At my mom's Halloween party, she is going to have stations where the kids can trick or treat from different people and I will also be using one of these wreaths for the party as well.
To make this project, you will need: Dollar Store wreath, Tootsie Pop Suckers, Coffee Filters, Black Paint Pens or marker, thin ribbon in black and orange, scissors and you will also need the following items that are not pictured: some larger ribbon to make your handle to hang it up and hot glue to attach the ribbon and four small pins if you would like for extra support.
Now you need to make the suckers. This wreath held 34 ghosts, but you can add more of less depending on how you place them and how full you want your wreath to be. For the ghosts, you will just take 2 coffee filters (you can see through 1, so you will need to use 2 per sucker) and fold them around the sucker. You will then tie a small piece of ribbon around the bottom of the sucker and spread out the filter at the bottom to look like the ghost body. (Make sure to use both ribbon colors, so you will be able to alternate the colors on your wreath) Next, use your black paint pen or marker to draw a ghost face on the front of the sucker. (You can use tissue or kleenex to make these ghosts, but the coffee filters are a lot sturdier and you can get a pack of 160 at the Dollar Store).
Now, you can just take the stick of your ghosts and insert them into the foam wreath. They do not go in super easy, so just be careful as you insert them. I tried to go diagonally with each of them so they wouldn't stick through the center of the wreath. You will want to put them in alternating the ribbon color and make rotate them so their faces will face forward and be looking at you.
Once you have arranged all of your ghosts and have the wreath looking like you want it to, you can now take a widder ribbon of your choice to use for the hanger. You will just need to make a loop and hot glue this directly to the back of the wreath. This will hold the wreath. I tested it out and had no problems, but I wanted to reinforce it a little more (I always want to over secure the projects), so I added four small pins to these as well.
Now you have your great decoration that can be hung up all month long and then when Halloween comes, let each child pick a ghost out of the wreath for their treat. You can hang this on your front door of course, but it was still very hot here up until yesterday, so I was scared the suckers would get too hot on the front door and that is why mine was just hanging from a door knob for this picture. Just wanted to give you an idea of how it looks hanging.
Another great idea!!! You have such creative ideas -- TFS!
ReplyDeleteOh I love this. This is great. I was thinking of making a pumpkin patch wreath. Same concept except you use orange tissue paper gather with green ribbon at the top instead of the bottom.
ReplyDeleteHow was Friday 13th? That is Michael Myers, right, Jason is Halloween. I don't know how you do it. I would be having nightmares every night. LOL
