Dad You Are Dynamite!! Gift and Card with Tutorial

My dad is going to get a variety of hand made items for Father's Day, because I had to make this.  I saw some little dynamite sticks of candy over at http://alliemakes.blogspot.com/ that she made for a teacher's gift.  From her sticks, I came up with this idea to make a TNT box and make a Father's Day gift.  I love how this turned out and I know my dad is going to love it.  I also made a matching card to go with it.

For the card, I used the Stand and Salute Cartridge to weld a rocket together and then I cut it to become a dynamite stick.  I added faux stitching, some yellow glitter and I used Batman Font for the letters on the front.
Here are some more pictures of the box.

To make this, I began with a box from Hobby Lobby and I used a screw driver to remove the hinges and the lid.

Next, I painted the base white and then I used a piece of scotch tape to mark off a stripe around the box.

Once the stripe was made, I used red paint to cover the box and then removed the tape so I would have a white stripe in the center.

Now, I was ready to decorate the box.  I used the George and Basic Shapes Cartridge to cut TNT out of black vinyl and put on both sides of the box.  Then, I used the Plantin Schoolbook Cartridge for the shape on the front and the Batman Cartridge with black vinyl to cut the sentiment.  I finally added some black faux stitch lines around the edges.  This was hot glued to the front of the box.
Now, I added some white shredded paper to the inside of the box and started making my dynamite sticks.  To make the sticks, you will need red paper, white craft cord and rolos candy.  I taped the cord to the side and top of the rolos and then wrapped them in the red paper.  I then used a small amount of hot glue to secure the paper together so it made a tube around the candy.  Then, I simply folded in the top and bottom of the paper around the candy and secured it with a small dot of glue.

After I had all six dynamite sticks finished, I secured three of them together and used the craft cord to wrap them together on each end.

Wow...that took some creative genius right there. I love that. I might have to try that for my honey from the kids. The only thing I would do different is make the dynamite sprees and smarties since my DH doesn't like to much chocolate....LOL!
LOVE IT TO PIECES!
